Studies of Volcanic Influence on Aerosols, Clouds and Climate

Johan Friberg has a background in Engineering Nanoscience, material science and measurement technology. He was introduced to aerosol particles during his master thesis, where he worked with polymeric nanofiber production to improve air-filters.

This thesis focuses on how volcanic aerosol particles influence the climate by scattering solar radiation and altering cloud properties. Volcanism was found to perturb the Earth’s radiative balance, masking some of the effects of recent anthropogenic warming.
